Recovery Court Graduation (9-18-19)
(Lakewood) - Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Recovery Court held a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, September 19, in the Women’s Club Pavilion at Lakewood Park. Eight graduates were given framed certificates of completion and had the opportunity to address friends and family in attendance. They heard from a keynote speaker who addressed the time she spent in prison for a deadly DUI crash, and her journey to self forgiveness. Musician Christine Herrick performed a song for the graduates.
Under the leadership of Judge Joan Synenberg, Recovery Court works with people in the criminal justice system who are dealing with not only drug and alcohol addiction, but also have underlying mental health issues related to trauma.
The trauma that Recovery Court clients have suffered can result from numerous instances, including witnessing the overdoses of loved ones, being subjected to physical and emotional abuse, or even being victims of human trafficking.
Recovery Court began in January 2015, and joined the previously established Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Drug Court.
