Judge Matia Receives Helping Hands Award

Judge David T. Matia is a 2025 recipient of a Helping Hands award from The Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County.
The Helping Hands awards are presented to outstanding individuals and organizations that embody the Board’s mission, positively impact the lives of people living with mental illness and/or substance use disorders and help to alleviate stigma in Cuyahoga County.
"I'm particularly honored to have received the Helping Hands award from the ADAMHS board,” said Judge Matia. “However, this award would not have come to fruition without the helping hands that I get from my Drug Court team. They are the ones who make it happen."
The award was presented at the ADAMHS Board’s annual meeting on Monday, May 12, and celebrates Judge Matia’s more than 15 years working with a Drug Court. Judge Matia presided over the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court’s first Drug Court docket in 2009. He currently presides over the Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) Drug Court which serves individuals with an opioid use disorder using medication. The docket was initially created in 2015 as a response to Ohio’s opioid pandemic.
